Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
