Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
